Greetings

What version of Windows?

In addition to what Murray suggested here are a few things to try.

1) Go into the Device Manager and *delete* the CD-Rom. Reboot. Windows
should recognize it again and set it up again automatically. Hopefully
that will fix your problem right off.

2) If Windows doesn't recognize it and set it up again.. You might have to
do some fishing around in the BIOS. When your computer boots up it should
give a list (that will disappear quickly:-() of what devices it found
connected. E.g. hard drives and CD-ROMs... Is it showing up in the list?
Do you know where it's plugged in for sure, e.g. cable 1 or 2, (or maybe 3
or 4 if you have IDE RAID built into the motherboard) and master or slave?
You might have to reboot a few times to practice staring at the right spot
on the screen to see the information flash by, but try to see if its being
recognized in the BIOS. One way that might make it easier is if you go
into the BIOS setup (usually by hitting Delete when the computer is
booting)... Go to the tab that shows the Boot Devices.. is the CD-ROM
drive shown in the list anywhere? If not make sure its plugged in properly
and has power (can you eject the CD tray etc?).. There might be a problem
with the CD-ROM drive itself if it's not showing up even at the BIOS
level.

There are a few things to keep ya busy for a bit ;-)
