Hi Josh...

I did some research a few years ago and the Sennheiser HD600's kept
coming up in reviews as being excellent and among the very best.  I
got a set and they are fantastic.

Headphones will never give you a completely accurate frequency
response like good monitors, but these phones are extremely detailed
and rich sounding, and will give you a very accurate picture of
relative balances, etc.

You should at least audition a pair of them to have as a frame of
reference, when comparing other sets.
