The main riffs in those tunes ( eg Rock and Roll Pt I and Pt II) sound like single line melodies -- albeit incredibly thick single line. A bit like the sound you get from a sax section playing unisons rather than a single tenor. In live performances in the early to mid seventies the "Glitter Band" which accompanied him had two full drum kits so that all the main beats were flams and there were usually a set of 4 tenor saxes thickening the guitar sound up. No saxes are evident on most of the recordings though. I am just curious about how that unique sound was obtained -- multi-tracking the line over and over sounds plausible I guess. Regards, Murray
