I won't go to OS X anytime soon, or buy a new Mac anytime soon, for just that reason. However, Peak 3.2 works in OS X WITH VST plugs and will even use them "offline" with Core Audio in OS X (only). "Offline," as in without using an ASIO driven hardware interface booted. So, it must be something eMagic simply can't implement soon enough to make the "on time" release and shipping of v6 happen. I have a hard time believing they're attempting to make only their proprietary plugs all that can be used in Logic. If they do, they'll only lose even more consumers to 2 tr editors that CAN use VSTs in OS X. That seems counter-productive... It might even force me to move to another product for multi-track before buying an upgrade from v4.8.1 to v6. I have a LOT of "3rd party" VSTs that I use in Logic, and if I could no longer use them, I'd be very pissed. Aside from the fact that I have over $1,000 invested in them, Logic's plugs don't even come close to being as hip as Elemental Audio's Eqium and Firium (awesome EQs), and they have nothing like Ambisone or any other psycho-acoustic "goodies," not even any stereo enhancers or "fake" stereo generators (although, there are "tricks" you can use with the digital delay plug to get something close, but you're then using a lot of processor power for something a plug designed for this uses very little of). The selection of plugs (unless they've added a helluva lot more in v5-6) simply isn't "there" for getting it ALL done. Apple will have NO control over the making and use of VSTs regardless, they weren't even designed for Macs, they were designed for PCs. 3rd party software makers moved them to the Mac platform. So, the market for them will be there as long as PCs AND Macs will, and unless Apple's management has gone completely and totally, irreversibly insane... ;) Best regards, ...z It's a small world.
