Like before (in OS 9) you have the list view, it's a button in the 
toolbar of the finder window, assuming that you have that grey 
toolbar switched on (klick the little lentil on the top right of the 
window), or you can of course access it from the View Menu or by 
pressing apple + 2.

This you can then sort by kind.

I don't know if you can set the sorting by kind for the coloum view, 
although I agree that would sometimes be a handy feature.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
