Dear Logic Users, I am looking for a good Firewire interface that I can use in the studio or at remote recording locations. The issues for me are as follows: - low jitter ADAT input from a Giga Studio PC - The quality of the AD converters at 24 bit/96 or greater - The quality and number of microphone pre-amps in the unit I am aware of the MOTU product but have heard indifferent things about build quality, converters, and preamps. The choices I am currently interested in are the Metric Halo 2882 which has 8 mic preamps/line inputs plus 8 ADAT digital inputs or the RME Fireface 800 which has 4 mic preamps, 8 line inputs, and 16 channels of ADAT digital input. The subjective differences in the sound of the converters and preamps are things I would like to hear from people about.
