One extra note: if you go to buy a large IDE drive (over 128GB) make sure your Mac can support it; older Macs cannot natively address larger drives without an aftermarket IDE controller card. (I have a Quicksilver 2002 model, which had no trouble seeing the entire 300GB drive). Check Apple's website for full details on your particular model. If you end up adding an external FW drive instead then I don't think you have to worry about this. As Andy also pointed out, one of Seagates biggest advantages is their super-quiet operation. Both my new drive and the one that shipped with my Mac are Seagate Barracudas, and I never - ever! - hear the clack! clack! clack! harddrive sound or anything else, no matter how hard I'm pushing the machine.
