Apple are in the process of completing a move to the industry standard architecture which is determined by the bigger players - Intel, AMD, Nvidia and the Dramurai. Apple is going to be running a distribution network, speccing cases to be made by third parties and supplying OS software and a few content creation apps that they have bought.
