I got the idea recently that he actually was onto something with this -- the cosmological constant. I vaguely remember hearing something on a radio science program to the effect that he should not have recanted. I have forgotten the gist of the matter but suspect that it was to do with: a) dark matter b) the expanding universe c) all of the above Perhaps someone else knows the details ...
