Hi,

someone on this list recommended Behringer patchbays before. I canNOT recommend
them at all. I bought one, as they're very cheap, to route my sound modules. The
contacts are crap!!!! They seem to be getting better the longer they are used,
and I think the smoking in my studio actually helps! I've got a few Hosa
patchbays, too. They've been working reliably for years and they weren't much
more expensive.

Cheers,

Recky

I'm also looking for a patchbay and was wondering what the normal/average price
is for a "good" one.
I've seen prices starting from 80 USD up to 2500 USD. I want good contacts, no
coloration or additional noise etc... Any ideas?

Try the ones from Re'an if you can find them. They are cheap, about
$80 USD for 20 four jack modules, and my experience with the three I
own has been very good, especially compared to what I am seeing
reported here. As for coloration that is a hard one to say anything
about but the wiring fairly well shielded, is as simple as you would
expect and the connections are very good. Like I said after six
years of hard use I only have two somewhat funky channels.

Joery,
I paid about 100.00 USD for my ProCo PBs. I've used them for about six years with no probs. They are one of the only ones that come in a solid metal case. Built like a tank with no exposed cards. No wiggle in the back end. (terrible in a girlfriend, but sought after in a patchbay). There are slots in the case where you can reach in with a small screwdriver and change each stage from full normal to half normal to no normal with a 3 position switch. They are getting really hard to find. Th elast time I tried to get one GC was out and I had to settle for a Furman. It's okay, but the quality is much lower. The Furman is about the same quality as the Rean. Stay away from the PBs where the cards are exposed in the back and you have to pull each card out and reverse it to change the normal configuration. Most of the cheaper ones work like that.HTH,
BarryM

Hi Barry, Can you tell me what model of ProCo patchbay you're
using? Is it the ADC Pro? According to their website they still
make them.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, Sure. It't the PM148. I didn't know they made others. What URL did you find them at?. I have six and Would like to replace the Furman I'm using with another ProCo if I can find one. GC stopped carrying them for some reason. I think for a while they were sort of expensive, and nobody bought them unless they were really seriously building racks. They came down into the realm of the affordable and I started buying them. But by that time I think GC must have decided not to stock them anymore as the supply seemed to dry up. I remember paying as much as 160.00 US for the first one. I fell in love with them and got the second 2 for about 120.00. I got a couple more later for about 80.00 each, and the last one I bought for 40.00. I would have bought a bunch at that price, but there was only one left. I actually need a couple more now. HTH,

Re: [L-OT] Re: Proco Patchbays (found em)

2001-07-21 by Barry Michael

Dave, I found the Proco site and it looks as if the PM 148 is no longer being offered. It looks like the ADC Pro Patch Mark II is the replacement for the one I'm using. The difference seems to be that the PM148 has a logo with the model # right in the middle, which divides the PB into two banks of twelve visually. As an aside, most of the Larger studios I've worked in here in Texas use Proco bantam bays, so they must be pretty good too. At one time there must have been some kind of TX/ProCo connection, as several sound companies here use their products too.

Hi Barry, The sales rep at Sweetwater I talked to said they carry
all the proco patchbays, even though they're not on the web site.
So maybe try giving them a call.

Dave
