I don't know hotfiles, but I think I remember someone telling me it's a place
to get lots of cracked software. If this is the case for this package as
well, then please do not send such posts to this forum.

Anyway, I have good news: the software I was using was freeware back then
(although it was beta software) and what's even better: the final version is
still freeware!!!

You remembered wrong. Hotfiles.com is zdnet's shareware software 
archive.
