I use Logic for mixing softsynths, softsamplers and audio.
I use an outboard mixer for the harware synths.
For my setup this is the best way to work.

You can use the live inputs, but I think they use a lot of CPU and 
you'll have to deal with the latency. Of course, you can also just 
record everything and then you don't have any of these problems. A 
soundcard with lots of AD is what you need. MOTU has some, I personally 
love the Hammerfall very much and there are even more alternatives.
