Aurotones WOT (way off topic)

2001-08-25 by Jim Seaman

Mixing people:

For years now I have unsuccessfully searched for Aurotone speakers to get a
ground zero reference for monitoring mixes.
No one here in Ottawa has heard of them.
Anyone know where I might purchase a set?

Thanks eh

Search Ebay. They're bound to come up (but use the correct spelling
"Auratone"). Are you sure they've been discontinued?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend them. They really aren't a "ground
zero" reference because hardly anyone listens to music on such a
speaker these days (hardly anyone that actually cares about music,
that is). They were in vogue back when nearly everyone was listening
to TV through a small, single speaker. In all seriousness, their main
use was to completely ensure that announcer copy triumphed over the
music bed in TV and radio commercials.
