OT Goodbye/apology
2001-09-23 by GAmoore@aol.com
I want to apologize for my comments. I didn't mean to fan the flames. And it has been very heartening how much support we have recieved from our European friends, and others around the world. I completely agree that the US must kill innocent people of any kind, and that Bush is a bit scary. We can only hope and trust that these leaders are as moral as they claim to be, and have the wisdom to do what is right - and as the same time, protect us from further danger. We don't have the luxury of waiting 10 years to catch Obomba Sin Laden, while he wreaks havoc in Chicago, San Franscico, Seattle. Miami, Los Angles, Paris, London, Bonn, Rome, etc. But please, this is not the time for the usual anti-American comments. America is not to blame for every problem in the world. We're human beings, and we make mistakes but we have done much good in the world in our own bumbling ways. Is Russia so saintly, with the thousands they have killed in Chechnya and Afganistan? Is China so holy, with the 3,000 of their own people killed in Tianamen Square and their repeated threats to cause a war to forcibly take Taiwan? Maybe its a mistake to support Israel, station troops in Saudi, and maintain sanctions against Iraq (these are the issues the Arabs site), but no amount of disagreement warrants attacks on civilians like this. (The irony of American troops protecting Mecca and Medina against the threat of other Arabs seems to never be considered.) Actually, some Arabs and Pakistanis blame the European powers for setting up the current day borders of the Arab states and India - something the US had very little to do with. A commentator mentioned the other day, that Irish Republican Army terrorists were polite enough to phone the building that was about to be blown up to reduce casualties. That world is now gone. If you're not happy with the way things are in the world, lobby your own government to conduct itself as you would like. I may not like the fact that my neighbor parks his crap car next to my window and my view out my living room window is of an oil stained driveway, but thats life.
