Re: [L-OT] US Selling Out

Re: [L-OT] US Selling Out

As stated, I do not believe we should have opposed Russia in Eastern Europe
after the war. Not at all. I said that.

I was simply interested in your choice of comparisons. It is one that many
people have used as an argument against American foreign policy at the tail
end fo the war.

Yet I think the only alternative those people have posited is in fact not
viable at all. As you state, a Russian-American confrontation shortly after
WWII would have been an unmitigated disaster for all involved, in my opinon.

In fact in my opinion, in hindsight, American foreign policy against Russia
specifically was extremely, wildly successful over the last 50 years. It
caused Russia to collapse economically as well as suffer cultural intrusions
from the West during the various Cold War thaws. All the while avoiding a
conflict. Of course 50 years from now we may be saying something very
different as Russia regathers its strengths. I hope not, though, and I do
tend to think not.
