I know all that. I have my facts straight. I'll leave the technicalities
legal mumbo jumbo to you. If we both agree it sucks, why do you have to
correct me? Who cares?

I've been saying that Rudy is a dick-head all along and no one listens to
me. Even during 9/11 he was just trying to make himself out to the world as
a caring guy. He is the biggest dick ever! He banned DANCING in clubs
without a DANCING license. he fined all the major clubs that didn't have
enough $ to pay for the license, when his undercover operatives found people
jiggling their butts. So for the last 8 years, all my favorite clubs have
signs on the wall that say "no dancing, sorry". The dancing license costs
too much for these clubs which already pay huge NYC rents.

whatever... he should have taken the $ and said, "I don't care what he
thinks, he gave us $"

That is one seriously opressive law. Or probably more appropriately,
one seriously devious revenue source.

The NYC cabaret law was passed in 1926, while Rudy was not even a twinkle in
his fathers eye. Just that, it had been ignored for decades, and he started
enforcing it. Part of his twisted 'quality of life' campaign. Get your

Back when I was doing a lot of gigging with blues bands, rock bands,
country bands, etc., I remember seeing many fights break out (with
police called) in bars with dance floors. I don't recall ever seeing
a fight at a listening-only room. Booze and butt jiggling are an
explosive combination. Somebody's got to pay for the extra law
enforcement. Maybe clubs where alcohol isn't served should be exempt,
though.

Either that, or people in the clubs should only do Irish step
dancing. I once heard a story about that form of dancing (i.e. no
upper body movement) having origins during the time when the British
outlawed dancing in Ireland. When the enforcers looked into the
windows of the pubs, it didn't appear that the patrons were dancing.

BTW, the license is most likely not the only cost to business owners.
I'm sure that the insurance rates for an establishment with alcohol
and dancing are also much higher.
