OT: Hammerfall & Fostx VC-8 Clock problem (URGENT!!!!!)

2000-05-01 by Gilles Ruppert

Hi all!!
I have a big problem with my Hammerfall and the Fostex VC-8 (AD/DA
converts)!
Yesterday, I was working on a song where I had 3 ES1 open and a midi file. I
was working in cycle mode to edit the midi file (not from the es1) and
suddenly after 5 minutes of loop work there came a digital noise at FS on
the channels of the ES1 (output1&2) & LA gave me midi/audio sync error
messages. I still was able to save, but I had to quit LAWP 4.2.2 so that the
noise stopped, but when I was rebooting LA, my converters did not lock
anymore to the clock of the Hammerfall (clock source still on optical on the
converters and Hammerfall selected as Master) & there was no sound coming
out (neither with Soundforge & Rebirth). I checked the control panel of the
Hammerfall, but still everything was alright. So I desinstalled the
Hammerfall drivers, and reinstalled them (2.3), but still the same problem!
Then I put the converters as the master clock, and put the Hammerfall on
Autosync: now it worked and the Hammerfall did sync/lock without a problem.
Then I switched the converters back to clock source "optical", leaving the
Hammerfall on autosync, again no lock (& sound!!). Is there a possibility
that the converters are a little bit "f*)(//+"%\ufffd" up, or is it perhaps the
Hammerfall?? I really hope that it is no hardware problem, but I really
tried everything that came to my mind (it is definitly no LA problem,
because the problem occurs with all my audio programms). Any help, ideas &
hints appreciated!!!
Cheers,
Gilles
P.S: is it possible that the digital noise blew up something??? as it is in
fact nothing else than a voltage current???
