New microphones

New microphones

2001-12-21 by Tony Thompson

I am planning to buy in an inexpensive mic or two for myself. I've already
bought in mics for a high school course I took over and stuck to some
tried-and-tested names: a pair of AKG C1000S for ambient/overhead stereo
stuff, a Sennheiser e602 bass instrument/kick drum dynamic (great sound, met
somebody using one in a busy London studio last week who likewise loved it),
some cheaper AKG dynamics; there was already an AKG C300B in the studio for
vocal tracking.

I wondered about the Superlux mic range. Has anyone used these? I need mics
which will handle vocals, accoustic guitar, small percussion.

I was also intrigued by the 2 mics on offer from these Scottish guys, via
the Web only - htp://www.red5audio.com. Amazing prices, especially
considering the slightly more expensive model has three pickup patterns.

hi
having had my acoustic guitar recorded in various swanky
studios using horrendously expensive mics over the years one
of the best sounds ive had so far has been with the relatively
inexpensive audio technica at4033a. i bought one and finds its a
gem for vocals too...
still, they're mics.....check em out before buying!

hmmm, looks pretty interesting (for some reason i couldnt
access the site using your link but got in ok by typing it into the
browser) i see what you mean about the prices! very competitive.
a 14 day trial period is essential. im almost tempted to have one
at those prices, just to hear how they are...and of course to
support a local manufacturer :)

That's one damn great mic. So is the AKG 1000S. Used it to record vocals. Gave a woman's voice warmth.
How about the standard Sure SM58 and SM57? Too standard? They are the cheapest things I can think of.
