Or suffers from bad economies from time to time (like me now), and has spent
enough money for the USB upgrade (you may know my story).
And wants companies to fullfill their marketing talk.

Sorry, that's not true. A 'real' proffesional is someone who makes his/her
money with making music. Therefore they will check double before spending
extra money.

as a workaround -though i understand that this may still irritate your
sensibilities- you could:
in 4.8.1, bounce the tracks in question through their dedicated effects
-keeping the original unaffected audio nearby, of course- and then do the
upgrade.
i believe that there must be (non-Emagic, other) similar plug-ins available
that'll continue to work within 5.0/5.1, with which to do much the same as
you've already done with TapeDelay & AutoFilter.

Just a few thoughts...
TapeDelay and Autofilter TDM have been working for how long... 2 years...?
I have done LOTS of mixes since then and many mixes are redone for
compilations or whatever.
So now Im required to go through all of those mixes and check whether they
used one of those plug-ins and bounce the tracks???
What crazy amount of time am I to invest in that?

AFAIK (I think I tried sometime) the settings saved by the TDM versions are
not even readable by the native versions, or its at least not possible to
copy/paste them. And AFAIR the TDM and native versions sound different.
And: Ill not be able to transfer the settings when the ADB dongle is gone,
because Logic wont even load the TDM plug-ins for me to see the settings.

And no, I dont know of a TDM plug-in that does similar things to
Autofilter.

I hope I made my point clear... its a dilemma!
