Wheres the PCI slots?

Wheres the PCI slots?

2002-07-15 by itsplayed

Since my my first inquiry I haven't really recieved
the info I need. I'm very much interested in getting
the mac because I love logic and I don't want to go to
another program (spent way to much time on learning
this one) however 4 PCI slots just doesn't cut it.
Someone responded saying there is a PCI expansion
module that I've never even heard of that's available
can someone out there tell me more about this unit!
Cost, were to purchase, downsides if any please.
                                     Many thanks
                                     The Stevepiece

I don't think I'd be buying any computer products from Guitar Center and certainly not Sweetwater. For the best prices, go to CompUSA or online @ CDW.com or occasionally audiomidi.com has some things that are audio
related for computers at decent prices, and sixtecycle.com will beat any price if they can get the item you want.

The Magma Model P7T is the most popular expansion chassis (a tower), offering 7 additional PCI slots and 3 internal IDE/ATA or scsi drive bays AND three externally accessible drive slots for removable storage drives (CD,
Floppy Disk, Jaz, etc). These units aren't exactly cheap @ $975 US, but think about it; this thing can house ALL of your "important" stuff that you might want to move to another computer! So in that sense, it makes ALL
your cool stuff PORTABLE, and when/if you upgrade your main computer, you don't need to contemplate moving much beyond one PCI card and perhaps the one or two cards that don't like to be in the expansion chassis like an
Orange Micro PC card. But, the chassis is for both Mac and PC, so it's a great investment whichever way to want to go.

Then, if 32 bit isn't good enough or you have the money and foresight to need 64 bit, it's also available, but costs another $600 US. I'm getting one eventually, and the folks on DAW-Mac (yahoogroups) that have them
swear by 'em (not at 'em). http://www.magma.com/pci/pci_tower_main.html

For slightly more money, but less space taken and more portability, Magma also makes a 4 slot with 4 internal drive bays and it can be mounted in a standard 19" rack taking up 2U space.
http://www.magma.com/pci/pci_4slot_main.html This unit is also available as a PCMCIA CardBus expansion for laptops.

The exact prices are on the web pages and the 4 slot units are "on sale" at reduced prices.

Nah, Paid Clitoral Interface. If you don't know what a "slot" is, well... ;)
