Re: [L-OT] Censorship

A while ago there was a series produced by the B.B.C called "the ascent of
man" ,it was presented by a professor Bronowski and concerned itself with
the developement of western civilisation in terms of cultural and artistic
advances and their synchronicity with scientific advances .
The last show in the series was concerned with the "uncertainty principle
" which as I understand it means that it is impossible to observe an event
without being an influence on that event especially at the atomic or
subatomic level ,cant remember exactly .. But ... the good professor chose
to present this final show in aushwitz [ dont think I spelt that right but
I'm sure you know the place I mean ] and the centrepiece for his exposition
was a billboard size photograph of a gentleman who lost his life in that
place because of the nazi certainty of his inferiority .
Now I dont for one moment wish to call our moderators nazi's ,i'm being
serious here fellow kiddies, and I do understand that someone somewhere has
to make decisions , however one of the things we boomers did which the 'xers
and younger can not possibly understand in a visceral sort of sense was
basically to emasculate the censors and the social controllers . I dont
think we were especially clever or anything .it's just we had the numbers
and we had parents who must have been thoroughly sickened by what
destruction a leader can wreak using rapidly advancing technology and a
blind faith in the inherent rightness of his belief system .
The reason the west is strong today is because of free thought [it's a
fairly new concept really] and its because of the fact that we dont execute
dissenters any more ,therefore one might be shunned by ones peers but as
they said in west side story they cant put you in gaol for what your
thinking [ not here anyway and not really in europe or the states ] . I
strongly believe , but of course I'm not certain :-)) ,that freedom of
speech is absolutely essential and given that we're all smart enough to run
a desktop more or less most of the time ,then if some of us are given to
saying things that make some others of us froth at the mouth well thats just
tough titties as far I'm concerned . let the frothers froth ,I dont mind
,let them put me to the test , I dont mind that either , lets discover each
other FREELY.
No I haven't moderated and as far a commitee of moderators is concerned
dont they say a camel is a horse designed by a commitee [ no offense guys I
like camels .. I actually think they're pretty ].
So In conclusion moderators , be very scared ...very very scared
....the whole of our culture could depend on you getting it right ,you know
what they say about butterfly wings and hurricanes .
