Outlook Express (Remove attachment)

Outlook Express (Remove attachment)

2002-11-20 by Obliviän | Bacteria AS

Hi,

I know this probably isn't the proper forum to ask this, but I try anyway...
;)

Does anyone know how to remove attachments from e-mails in Outlook Express?
My mailbox get's incredibly large 'cause I'm not able to remove attachments
from mails. The only solution I find is to delete the whole message, but
then again I'd like to keep all in/outgoing messages for future references.
Earlier I used Eudora and then it was no problem since it saved all
attachments in a separate folder.

With Outlook this isn't a problem since you have an option to remove any
attachments...

(...and no, I am not particularely interested in changing e-mail client).

Any suggestions appreciated!

Regards,

Obi

Since attachments are nothing but plain files, I would guess that
Outlook, just like Eudora, stores the attachments in some dedicated
folder. So: do a "find" for some attachment you have, and see where
it's stored. Then delete the entire folder if you want...

Hi,

Here (Entourage/MacOS/ German) there´s a command <delete attachments>, you
will find it (hopefully) under <news>. I translated the name from my german
version, so I´m not sure about the real menu name.

Hope this helps.

Ah, you mean German is not a _real_ language...? That's what I
always tried to tell my highschool teachers, but they never agreed...
:-)

Hi OB,

I'm in version 5.5 and there's a command in the "message" menu that says
"remove all attachments"... That's what I use.

Well, you're on Windows. It's weird that Microsuck didn't give you Windows
people a full featured free version like they gave us Mac people. who would
have thunk that in a million years?

Personally I think you're both insane for using Outlook Express at all :-)
Though using M$ products on a Mac seems even more strange than using them
in Windows..

This is the oddest conversation...the full featured Outlook was given
to PC users. The Mac users got the scaled down version. But really,
the only difference between the two was:
A Calender...that was it...Yet both are virtually Identical.

That is close to being the oddest thing I have ever read. Especially
since MS Word and Excel were originally created on the for Mac
platform. They were just not owned by MS at the time. Yet Outlook was
released at the same time for both platforms.

Anyway...
Me Mac, me have used Outlook in the past...no more now...but in the
past, yes.

Here is why...at the time I found it annoying to keep browsers open for
emails. So I opted for an email app. Used Eudora for a while, then
found it quite annoying. Learned of Outlook and found it pleasing, at
the time. I don't use it anymore, since OSX has Mail, and that is one
less thing to bother downloading or keep track of...if I did a system
overhaul.

But Outlook on the Mac is decent product...really. You could import
contact list from ANY other email application, and import ALL your past
emails right into Outlook. It's a good product whether Mac or PC. But
me, I am just trying to stay away from as much third party crap as I
can.

Though the problem with Outlook for Windows was vulnerability...that is
how that nasty "I Love you" virus made its way around. Yet, again, the
famous MS "we sacrifice security for functionality".

Peace,
Alexis

That's what I thought too, but appereantly OE merge attachments with the
e-mail itself. I don't think there's a work around this, apart from
switching e-mail client that is...

That among other things is why I use Eudora. Back to the original
question I find Eudora works great for grouping threads and i use it
that way all the time. Also it is dead easy to create filtered
inboxes. My one complaint is there is a bug in that it seems to take
about 30 seconds between the time mail is DLed and it appears in the
inbox unless you click on the Task Progress window which makes it
update the inbox immediately.

Not so over here. In the Settings dialog, I've got an item
"Threading". Click it, and you'll have a.o. the option "wait time
before delivering". Set it to zero. That might solve the problem --
or at least: that's the only Settings option I could find that might
explain why I don't experience such a lag and you do.
