good tube mic

good tube mic

2004-05-23 by Remco Muntz

Hi,
Can any of you give me some advise on a good tube mic for about EUR
700-800. I'm going to use it for my project studio, mainly on vocals,
but also on acoustic guitar and maybe some other instruments. I'm
looking for a nice sound with a lot of depth and warmth. Well, actually
I just want a good micrphone. I own a Rode NT1000 now, which I like,
but I want to upgrade to something better. I've been hearing very
positive things about chinese manufacturers (anyone know about this?),
SE Electronics...
Thanks for any info.

Others I forgot to mention: AKG SolidTube, SE Electronics Z-5600, Rode K2, Neumann
TLM103.

FWIW, the TLM 103 is not a tube mic, but an excellent, IMHO, "must
have" addition to any good mic collection. I use it fairly often on
vocals where the singer is somewhat thin sounding, and in need of
some "beefing up", which works better for me with the Neumann than
the mic I usually start off with when recording Vox, the really
wonderful Brauner VM 1.

HTH, kind regards

This is kinda what I'm looking for. Yes, I know the Neumann isn't a tube, but it's not that I
must have a tube. I just want a very good sounding mic.
