Matt - do you remember the 75 Election in Oz?
Rupert Murdoch wanted to bring Gough down so he only ran the stories which
were slanted against the ALP. Everything from staffers following the then
prime- minister was suppressed. This got so bad that his political journo's
went on strike in the week or so before the election.
A joke went around.
One of Gough's advisers said -- Gough - why don't you show them. Show them
all how great you are, why don't you walk on water?
Gough considered and then said (put on your best accent) -"Allright I will"
So Gough went down to the shore of Lake Burley Griffin with the press
gallery in tow and lo and behold he walked on the water!
Next day the papers reported the miracle and the true marvel that was Gough.
Except for the Rupert's "The Australian".
His headline: "Gough Can't Swim.'

Ah yes,
However, it is pushing my memory, as my interests were purely limited
to Lego and dirt.
I was 5 years old. ;-)

Matt

I was but a callow yoof m'self.
Murdoch's history gets the once over in
The Murdoch Archipelago by Bruce Page.
Quote:
The important point, says Page, "is that Murdochs operation may well be the
general model of media empires which live in corporatist bliss with slowly
degrading national governments."

Doesn't it make you proud to be Australian?
