I have a 414B-XLII mic, an 828mkII interface, and I am trying to decide on a
preamp. My price range is $500 to $700. At this point my best options seem
to be :
1. Summit 2ba221
or
2. Joe Meek twin Q

I am recording everything from pop vocals to classical woodwinds and
strings. What is the way to go on a preamp?

In this price range I heard FMR RNPs were nice. You might want to
check one out.

I'm not familiar w/ these 2 units but in general, if
you have one pre and need it for such varied usage I
would get the one that is more neutral and
transparent, and less vibey. You can always add vibe
with plugs or a tube compressor, but it's hard to
remove it when its not wanted.

Good suggestion! And its cheap enough you might also
be able to afford an RNC- a killer bang for the buck
compressor. JP
