The role of a list 'moderator'

The role of a list 'moderator'

Now I've got something to say about moderation and Joeri.
IMO, it's not Joeri's job to tell people how to behave on a mailing list, unless they are conducting themselves in a way that they start to annoy others or deteriorate the function of the list.

Many of us have had the urge to reply, as soon as we see a subject we want to say something about. As long as everyone's happy with the way these replies are and you respect the other person's opinion, you've got things smoothly running.
That is as long as not everyone on the list starts replying to the same subject at the same time.

The LUG is like what? 5000+ readers? If we all started replying to each and every mail, I bet the mailing list would become practically non-functional.

So, before I mail something, I always take the time to read the subjects that interest me. It's impossible to read all 150+ mails everyday; I have another life besides this mailing list, :-).
This way I moderate myself. Gives Joeri a break, :-).
Once a while a joke is ok, it's fun reading these. But if some joke becomes a week long thread, you should try to restrict yourself from sending a mail in reply of it. May be a cool crack at the joke, but then send it to the person himself, off-list.
How about we start moderating ourselves?
If you want to reply to me personal, that's ok. But I can't promise to reply soon. My work eats so much of my time, :-).
Peace,
Yoonchi.
