You don't say which version of GCC you're using (yet you do quote
versions for other tools), nor which libraries you're linking in.  Code
size is dependent upon the libraries you link which is why we have
written our own.

You only pay £99 for CrossConnect, but we can download at more than
35KB/second.  2MB and you'll need to use a big LPC with external memory.

Why would anything else be better *if* you're downloading to flash?
From our experience, StataFlash-based devices take one hell of a long
time to erase, but can be programmed at about 200K/second.  RAM
development is, of course, another matter but even then an ARM7TDMI-S is
limited in speed.  We're looking at accelerating the CrossConnect and
keeping the price point the same.
