The new encoder will have a bridge between it and the VAX, right ?

OK, there is more here then I picked up on, my first read thru.

As you stated, you have an idea how to do this. So I'll leave it up to
you.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
