They are a hefty price though, more than the cost of the chip that will sit on it in many instances. Actually populating the board isn't anywhere near as difficult as getting a BGA PCB built. If it comes down to it you can mechanically clamp the device to the board or use silver loaded epoxy or paint, which seems to work surprisingly well.
