and Miro Sameks excellent book: Practical Statecharts in C/C++.
I highly recommend reading this book and possibly some of the listed 
references.
Also, have a look at VisualState from IAR, which is a graphical tool 
for drawing hierarchical state diagrams (StateCharts) and generating 
quite optimized code from them. This is a commercial tool that cost a 
bit, but there exist a demo version and the documentation is worth 
reading.
