What types of batteries used for Real Time Clock?

2005-01-22 by lpc2100_fan

Hi,

I have been looking into batteries lately and so far haven't found the
"right" solution, not just for the LPC2138 but in general.

1. For those who connect batteries, do you
a. just power down the micro, keeping all RAM alife but burning a lot
more power or
b. have a battery only connected to the Vbat keeping the Clock alife
but loosing all RAM with much better power

2. Do you use rechargeable batteries?
a. Lithium Ion ?
b. 3 cells NiMH?
c. how do you handle self discharge?
d. do you have a charge implemented in your design?
e. any thought on rapid self-discharge at higher temperatures?

3. or do you use regular alkaline batteries?
If yes, how do you handle the wide range of voltage during discharge?

4. Do you use Li/MnO2 or similar with native 3V?

5. What kind of form factor / capacity?

For those that are in similar situation and did not go through the
google session yet a couple good links to information about batteries:

look for technical OEM at the bottom of the site

Looking forward to your input and design proposals ;-)

Cheers and have a great weekend, Bob
