The documentation of "ld" (http://sources.redhat.com/binutils/docs-2.12/ld.info/index.html) has some info on the syntax and commands of a linker command file. It isn't exactly good organized or very clear, but it's a start. I wouldn't expect to easily find good documentation for gcc/binutils/libc/newlib if I were you. I believe that someone who is also a member of this group wrote a book about using these tools for embedded systems. There are surely more books on the subject. And there are the best source for such information.
