May be it's a little steep, in engineerng time this is somewhere between half a day and a day. So if you can reduce time to market by one day using soft breakpoints it was worth the $600. The real alternative is Code Trace via the ETM interface. This would allow even better debugging but a trace emulator is still a little more than the 600 Dollars and you have to give up some extra pins. Two hardware breakpoints are just not enough (this is ARM specific and true for all existing ARM7 devices). So this software breakpoints provide a debug option that otherwise is only available if debugging in RAM. For some that is well worth it, for others probably not. As always, time is money and everybody has to decide how much money (=time) to spend in order to save some ;-) Just another way to look at it.
