IAR and Wiggler JTAG emulator

IAR and Wiggler JTAG emulator

2006-04-06 by pberna2003

Dear all

I'm training to use IAR V4.31A for ARM with wiggler. After
downloading and installing the MAC_MOT.SYS driver (I got it from
Macraigor at http://www.macraigor.com/downloads/ocd_dbgr.exe)

I installed the driver. Then I have started the IAR C-SPY. Now it
recognized the new driver but it sends the error message OCDemon
Error, Internal error 43, and the debugging process doesn't start

For your info, if I try to use the same Wiggler emulator with the
Rowley IDE, all work properly.

1) Any idea about the reason of this error using IAR ?
2) Do anyone know if IAR really support Wiggler ?

Best Regards
Paolo

This might be caused by a missing connection inside your "wiggler"
clone. Connect pins 8 and 15, then error 43 should go away.

But that's not everything.

Ocdemon seems to be a heap of crap when used on a serious windows
system. It's close to dysfunctional and throws error message after error
message. And it's way slow. Real slow.
Maybe it works better on a pseudo windows system (95/98/me that is).

That is at least ONE reason to stay with Rowley,

> 1) Any idea about the reason of this error using IAR ?

That's not an IAR related problem, but a problem related to Macraigor's
ineptness at creating working software.

see above.

See the Olimex design as a refrence.

http://www.olimex.com/dev/pdf/LPC-P2148.pdf

You need 2x 33Ohm in series, 2x18pf to gnd and a 1.5K pullup. No
more, no less.

Are you using a genuine Wiggler or a clone?

The Cypress chips are popular, you don't need much else. Philips have just
announced a new ARM chip with high-speed USB: it might be an ARM9, though.

OK, I gotta ask... What is the problem with the LPC214X USB
interfaces ? My understanding was that they work OK.

Leon,
The LPC214x has on chip USB interface.

I experimented with olimex P2148 board, checked keil schematic, etc...
The minimum external circuit are two 33OHM resistors and D+ 1k5 pullup
for detection by host. That's about it. :)

Dear Leon

I'm using the Hitex Hitop-link ARM. It is regognized as wiggler
emulator by Rowley Crosswork and by HI-JTAG V0.2 too without any
problem. I try also to connect pin 8 to pin 15 of the parallel port
without any success. It seams the OCD commander doesn't recognize
the dongle.

Thank you in advance for any additional idea

Sorry, I can't think of anything. My home-made JTAG works OK with OCD
Commander and CrossWorks. Contact IAR and see what they say.

I'd suggest you download H-Jtag - rock solid with IAR's RDI selection:

http://twentyone.blogchina.com/

If you're using the Olimex wiggler and have trouble, there's an earlier post on how to configure it.
