How can I make the FT232 to float the TX output, so I could safely use 
the Uart0 RX line?

So you want to use this line as an output (sometimes) or as the RX input?

To do this I would connect the FT232 TX to the RX via a resistor. Say 4k7. 
Then you'd be able to drive the RX pin as an output without contention from 
the TX.

Use P0.1/RXD0 as RX pin, where I feed my own signal. I expected to
Olimex board to let this happen without cutting traces. 

Does anyone have experience with driving the RX while the FT232 is
still on it (with no addtl. resistor)? 

The other LPCH-2124 board from Olimex (or rather the ST RS232 chip)
tolerated this very well.
