It is something I wanted to avoid :-(

Strange, and you are right I did not experience memory leaks with other 
milters (MIMEDefang, milter-sender, clamav) on Solaris.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
