Also, i do call the outer make parallelly. I'm not aware of a make implementation that inherits flags to child invocations using a different variable. Sun make, gnu make and bsd make all support it. MAKEFLAGS is part of at least POSIX-2001 (SUSv3), probably even older ones (-2001 just happens to be the oldest one that I kept on my hard disk; I expect everyone to have arrived in this century by now).
