That should work like that. The only pitfall I can think of is to run
configure with a different --with-user.
I try to maintain a full backward compatibility so that a new version
can be dropped in place of the previous one without any mandatroy change
to the config and database files.

Just let milter-greylist clean the junk, it removes expired entry when
it sees them.
