Loosing email

Loosing email

2014-12-31 by Alan Clifford

Hi, I seem to have noticed this problem a couple of times. An email is
sent to alan@... and margaret@...

The wife's email address doesn't grey list but the alan@... is.
The email is only delivered to margaret@...

Dec 31 19:47:47 idaeus milter-greylist: sBVJljG8004962: skipping greylist
because recipient <margaret@...> is whitelisted,
(from=<john@...>, rcpt=<margaret@...>,
addr=smtpout1.wanadoo.co.uk[80.12.242.29]) ACL 192

Dec 31 19:47:47 idaeus milter-greylist: sBVJljdD004963: addr
smtpout1.wanadoo.co.uk[80.12.242.29] from <john@...> to
<alan@...> delayed for 00:05:00 (ACL 194)

Dec 31 19:47:47 idaeus sm-mta[4963]: sBVJljdD004963: Milter:
to=<alan@...>, reject=451 4.7.1 Greylisting in action, please come
back later

Could be the fsnet server perhaps not resending because the message has
been accepted for margaret by my server? Or something I need to
configure?

Yes,it seems the sender server should retry for the address that had a
temporary failure. I guess you will have to globally whitelist this one.

OK, thanks for that. Is this a common problem? It's not something I'd
normally see as we don't usually get mail addressed to both of us.

Could I ask for advice please?

The return path header is an fsnet address but the received header is
wanadoo

Received: from smtpout.wanadoo.co.uk (smtpout1.wanadoo.co.uk
[80.12.242.29]) by idaeus.clifford.ac (8.14.4/8.14.4/Debian-4) with ESMTP
id sBVJljG8004962
for <margaret@...>; Wed, 31 Dec 2014 19:47:47 GMT

so I think I should be looking to whitelist wanadoo.co.uk, as in

racl whitelist domain /.*@wanadoo\.co\.uk/

Or is that far too broad a whitelist?

It happens sometimes. There are always odd-behaving servers,
and tis is why whitelisting is there.

I would rather whitelist the netblocks allocated to wanadoo UK, but that
should do it too.
