Hey Folks,

Long time listener, second or third time poster.  

While this is not a I an exact answer for what to do, this is 
something I found that made a huge difference. 

I can give props to the powerconditioners at Equitech.com.  I 
installed one of their 125 amp sevices at a studio I built and work 
at - and it is absolutely all that they say it is.   
I thot that it was mostly hype, and it would not make *that* much 
difference. Well the house was built in the 1930's and has 
similar vintage wiring as has been mentioned.   So I installed the 
the big circut panel, and took a 220 feed right off the pole.  I ran 
new lines to the rooms - tech power if you will - and have *never* 
had a problem since.  The only time problems arise are when an 
actual piece of gear is gakked, then it points it out in a hurry.  

This is a big studio - API Legacy console 48 Trks of Iz RADAR - 
lotsa outboard gear.  I do alot of  bands and such and can find 
faulty amps in a hearbeat.  All of my older tube gear, discrete 
gear, and analogue synths don't seem to mind the 'balance 
power'.   The big test was pluging in an '64 blonde tremolux in 
one room, running 35-40 feet of grt cable down the hall (with a 
radioshack turn-around) plugging into a Strat, then plugging in a 
shop vac on the same circuit as the amp.(yes it was turned on)  
There was a *slight* increase in noise....but compared to the 
house power...no contest. 

I know they make smaller rack versions - I use one of those 
when I go to different studios with my gear.  

I know Furman also makes these types of things...there seemed 
to be a little patent question a couple years back.  

Just thot I would give a shout for something that really 
impressed me from the get-go.
