While we're OT..... Joseph, It may be a deal- but I'd advise you to really find out if the thing works at all (have him play it over the phone?) - most broken synths still make noises of some sort! - of course unless only the pwr supply is dead - then it is pretty easy to fix, it thats all...?!?! If he really doesn't know what he's got and it really IS broken - then offer him a $100 bucks plus the s/h - at least try this first... P-Vs are not easy to calibrate, let alone fix, and if a/the main VCO,VCF chips are shot (CEMs or SSMs i think) - then you gotta worry about finding those obsolete buggers at usually around $40-$50 a pop. so it can start to add up... Those Wine Country guys are still trying to round up all P-Vs and scrounge a few bucks out of them, if not only for parts - and they charge accordingly for these things($$)! Think they selling refurbbed ones for around $2500...?!? Personally - having fixed/calibrated many P-Vs, and still owning a 'full-blown' rev3 - I don't think they're as sensational as one may believe, comparatively speaking from todays standards, unless of course, you just gotta duplicate those sounds from the past...or are a collector or something... Then again, I have about 20 keyboards laying around or in storage that my wife would LOVE to see gone or eBAY-ized (cause we really need the space!) She just doesn't realize that she's gone (or eBay- ized)way before they are...!! ;) Hope this helps a bit. Rog I've got an opportunity to purchase a prophet 5 for $500. The ignorant owner isn't sure if it works or not, says it makes noise, but not musical. serial number 2328 One sold on ebay last night for $1,700, with midi and case. Is a broken one worth $500? Pictures look good. It may work fine, but I'm on the other side of the country, and can't check it out. And how much do these weight? He wants $100 for shipping :( Sorry for the OT question, but I'm not part of any other synth groups.
