Hi David -

Thanks for all you've said! I couldn't be happier that you dug it.

The process was actually very simple, as are the voices. All the
voices are the same patch with slight knob tweaks for each one. The
basic patch consists of 3 VCOs (2x300, 1x310). One 300 SQR out, one
300 SAW OUT, and the 310 SHAPE knob half way. All outs go to a 420,
the out of the 420 to a 190. One 800 mods the 420 and one mods the
190. Very straightforward VCo->Filter->VCA patch. Tweaks to the
ATTACK knobs on the 800s and the FREQ knob of the filter were made
for each voice.

It's an old synthesist's trick: combine a simple voice into a more
complex whole.

The music itself is even simpler. The whole peice is a single 16
step sequence. I used Seq-303 software from (now-defunct) Techno
Toys to generate the sequence and a Kenton Pro Slo to drive the
resulting MIDI into CV for the MOTM. The bass part is played in
quarter notes, the two baritone parts in 8ths and 3 high parts in
sixteenths. Some parts went through the sequence forwards, some
backwards, and some back and forth.

It's an old composer's trick: take a simple motif and combine it in
various ways.

As to recording, each track was played and recorded separately
(there are six tracks, or voices). The OUT of the synth went
directly to my board which is connected to my PC via FireWire. The
original recording and mixdown was done at 48 KHz 24 bits. It was
recorded using Cool Edit Pro 2 (now Adobe Audition). The only
effect is a slight amount of reverb applied by Izotope's Ozone at
mix down, and some slight EQ and compression.

That's it!

Mike
