[OT] Electronic Tanpura and Tabla

2004-10-19 by Tentochi

For those of you that may have seen the VC Tabla and VC Tampura that Cyndustries has for sale
(http://www.cyndustries.com/modules_tabla.cfm), fear not! They are each a staggering $750 each!!!

These instruments are staples among many Indian and world music performers. They are just funky
little dedicated sample playback units.

Cyndustries' VC Tabla is just a conversion of the easily obtainable Riyaz Master Pro Electronic
Tabla. Buckingham Music is having a Christmas sale for $275 right now. Pakrashi & Co. is selling
them for $190. Quite a mark up for a conversion. Here are 2 links with an MP3 sample:

Cyndustries' VC Tanpura is a conversion of the Ragini Pro Electronic Tanpura. Pakrashi & Co. also
sells this for $190 (see the last link above). There is also a more digital version availabe, but
I do not believe that is what they used for the conversion. I may be wrong on this one since they
did not use any of the original panel, and I don't feel like taking the time to research it at the
moment. Can also be written as tanbura.

Another good site to peruse is:

One company also continually posts these on ebay.

I suggest not messing with a conversion; just pick up one of the original (cheap) units and have
fun!
