I will defend the MOTM-190 a bit here. The 'A' section with the ring modulator works fine as a regular VCA in the Linear mode. While lacking the VC attenuator and the initial gain pots of the 'B' section, the Blend pot can accomplish a similar function to the initial gain pot. In Linear mode the Blend pot is a "wet/dry" mix. As you turn it toward the "IN" mark (counter clockwise) more of the input is mixed through. This is like increasing the initial gain: the sound never completely disappears from the output. As for the lack of a VC attenuator, I find that most of the time I am driving the 190 from a MOTM-800 and I want the full dynamic range. The final output levels are adjusted downstream of the VCA in a mixer either in or outside of the modular. -Richard Brewster Jason Proctor wrote: >can i put a vote in for some modules to be even more vanilla than they are now? > >at the moment, i'm short VCAs, and the only way to get more is to buy >more 190s. now the 190 is a fine module, but it's a little asymmetric >given that only one of the VCAs has a gain control, and, and this is >a big and, i think it's a little silly to have to buy more relatively >little-used ringmods in order to get more VCAs. > >little-used functions are fine and dandy of course, but maybe they >should be bundled together into modules (eg noise/s&h etc) instead of >included as extras on bread & butter modules. > >happy nondenominational holidays everyone > >j > > >
