The IBM patent server is a gold-mine of info. 50% of the patent's contents you can view/print for free. You can on-line order/download PDF files of all your favorites: Moog ladder filter, Aphex Aural Exciter, ARP duophonic keyboard, etc etc etc. I can spend hours just looking around. No shortage of the bizzare: over 2,300 diaper patents alone! And one of my all-time favs: "Digital Moose Call". Patents *used* to be *extremely difficult* to obtain. Having a patent was considered 1 step below the Nobel Prize. Now, it appears you can patent everything from the ridiculous (the new dimension) to the idiotic Look in the "Gallery of Obscure Patents" or whatever it's called: last week they had a patent for "Cat Excercising Method" which consisted of shining a laser pen pointer on the floor and watching the cat chase it. However, there are about 4,000 "electronic music" patents. Happy digging! Paul S. trys to remember the 'glory days' while playing ELP on 11.
