DIY Idea for the newer gents, All you have to do is buy an IBM PC Jr joystick from Goldmine electronics (They are on-line, sorry no address) for $1.99. I bought 3 and have made one joystick on a breadboard so far. It is much easier than I thought to make one of these things. With a basic circuit design (In B.Klein book, electronotes, on web, etc), all you have to do is send regulated voltage (5-10v) via the 900 Power Supply into the pots on the joystick (X and Y). The pots go to jacks for CV out and thats it! I used a MIDI cable to take the power into and from the joystick as well as ground for the joystick. The MIDI cable will provide a solid connection for the joystick since it was impossible for me to find the actual type of connector it came with let alone cut the square hole in 1/8" aluminum. You can insert attenuators based on the designs in MOTM almost anywhere in the circuit. This will help to limit the range of CV you put out of the joystick. I have an attenuator for each X and Y axis so I can limit things from the start of the CV instead of at the module (Great for my Blacet modules with no CV input attenuators) Just a reminder of side ventures possible in the DIY modular realm. I think the total cost for my joystick including small pcb from radio shack, joystick, frac panel, carbon pots (in my defence... the joystick uses carbon pots so I saw no need for them in the attenuators), midi jack and cable (old used one with bad connection on one end, don't we all have one of these?)... anyway the total cost was around $15 and a nights proj-ing worth of time. Very fun and rewarding to use this thing with the MOTM! This would for sure make a great 1u utility module. Everybody would have to re-wire their own PC jr though, Thomas White PS the brave could also utilize the gate buttons on the joystick (2) as triggers if wired up to a 8 or 9 conductor cable like the one that comes with the joystick. It would almost be like old Atari with your modular! Pong anyone? I wonder what made the sounds on the old Atari? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
