Nathan, If you're concerned about the expense and have no looming need to pull up vinyl flooring, Radio Shack carries a cheapo heat gun that's basically a modified cigarette lighter in a fancy case with an additional heating element. You can refill the lighter cartridge with butane. It works wonderfully. Just make sure you're not too close to the insulation of the wires! :) I love the really big heat guns, though, for stripping paint off old woodwork! There's no feeling quite like finding beautiful molding under 60 years of gooped-on paint.
