I agree, the reference voltage won't do much good for tuning. Rather than get a frequency counter, I think the best solution is to spend the $100 or so on a Korg DTR-2 Rack tuner. They are worth every penny and look cool too! I keep a patch cord plugged between an input on my DTR-1 and an oscillator all the time. I have been able to tune multiple oscillators without listening to them and found them to be dead on when I turned up the volume.
