So. the MOTM rack rails are not drilled for the same size screw as
regular rack rails.

Paul, other wise ones, care to share what flavor of rack it is for
those lost souls who want to know?

Thanks

Bruce

Standard rack rails use #10-32 machine screws. MOTM rack rails use #8-
32 machine screws. The hole spacing is exactly the same for MOTM as
for standard rails. The MOTM panels could probably take a #10 screw
in their corner holes if you insisted on modifying a standard rail to
mount horizontally. BUT, I'd sure try it first, and you should be
aware that you wouldn't have as much slop factor for minute panel
placement adjustments.

BTW, all this information is available if you read the MOTM catalog
online.

From a MOTM manual (hardware section) "#8-32 X 3/8"

The hole pattern is the same as a standard rack rail (but you already knew
that).

So if one were to use brass inserts (#8-32) into a piece of pine as mounting
rails, one could use a standard rack rail as a drilling guide I believe.

Shocking!
All three Stooges in agreement!
I guess it helps that it's an empirical question.

Ok.

But back to my original question. Where does one find the racks or
rack rails that are the smaller #8 size?

You mean other than buying them from Paul? You didn't state your
original question very clearly.

If you want to mount your MOTM in a rack, buy the rails from Paul or
make your own, 'cause you are not going to find commercial rails
tapped for #8-32.

If you are trying to build a wooden case that's wider, your current
choices are to either have a machine shop custom make them from
metal, use a hard wood rail and wood screws, or use a soft wood rail
like pine and use threaded brass inserts.

Yep yep...

Have some, use em... thinking of making a much larger place to put the
modules. Wanted to use the same rails.

Thanks

Bruce,
I have never seen them, other than the one's Paul sells. Paul's rails that
you mount the MOTM modules to are sized to fit a standard size rack You
fasten the MOTM rails (a pair) horizontally in the rack with # 10/32. You
attach your modules to the MOTM rails with the 8/32 (supplied by Paul with
the module).

Well, I guess we were having a hard time following. At least I was. One
thing you have in common
with many of us -- we need a larger space for our MOTM. :)
