I've got dibs on the Arp 2500! Once my second mortgage comes through. Then I can finally film that sequel to CE3K.

I've actually played that ARP 2500. John Terry, the owner of the site and the remaining synths, is pure collector. He is a great guy but his real passion is antique radios. He runs the "Antique Radio Classifieds" and has a huge collection of radios (his synth collection is *small* in comparison). He does have some very nice old theremins that aren't on the site. John kinda went nuts buying synths in the mid-to-late 1990s. He didn't record with them but he did power them up and kept most of them running. He bought most of those synths from dealers and his selling prices are not far above his acquisition price. I've bought a few things from him but not for the listed price (but still kinda pricey). He actually had one guy purchase the Polyfusion, Moog, and Emu modulars at the same time! That required a truck to haul it all away! The Polyfusion was probably the best of the lot. The 2500s are kinda interesting. They are certainly impressive beasts and I have to hand it to ARP, they still work great and stay in tune after all these years with very minimal maintenance. My problem with the matrix patching is that you feel like you need bifocals to set up a patch! I had a really hard time patching it up. Now, the potential for "happy accidents" is pretty large since it is easy to get your patch busses confused ;) Speaking of Close Encounters. There is another synth guy in the area that has a rather large ARP 2500 setup (two main cabinets and 2 wings). He bought one main cabinet and the two wings from Skywalker Sound in CA. His claim is that it was the synth used in Close Encounters. Of course, it doesn't have the fancy cabinetry... Still a very nice system that keeps his studio warm in the winter ;) Eric --- "Tkacs, Ken" <ken.tkacs@...> wrote: > > I've got dibs on the Arp 2500! Once my second mortgage comes through.
